Without the time or resources to finely tune a strategy, developers use discounting, promotional deals, bulk sales, localisation, and regional marketing to try and make an impact, but it's difficult to base these decisions on solid, quantifiable data, let alone measure their effectiveness. One of the main problems indie developers face currently is a loose approach to business development, says Kaczmarczyk. It allows developers to breakdown their game sales across platforms and in different regions these numbers can then be compared to other games in order to better understand how well a game is performing.
